I made a visit to Jonathan in Madison from February 8 – 10, 2002. Here are a few thoughts and images from my visit.
Jonathan had just moved into a new apartment a week before I arrived. This made his housing a feature of the visit and a focus on some activities – fixing broken lamps, hanging pictures on the wall and looking out the window at his view of Lake Mendota (one of the four lakes in Madison).

We took a number of jaunts around Madison and the university. This included stops at his two offices. I guess being a graduate student doing research in one department (Sociology) while lecturing in another department (Industrial Relations) has lead to this odd state of affairs. |
Although he likes the view from his second small office in the old Agriculture Building, he finds the view from his big office to be less than charming.
I prefer to think of this view as a socio-political status metric.
Only when I returned to work did I realize that his larger office is as big as the entire offices of Valuedge world headquarters in Lexington.
| Jonathan is currently a Senior Lecturer for the Industrial Relations Department. |
| The course, Industrial Relations in Developing Countries, focuses on the ongoing globalization of capitalism and the impact of this phenomenon on third world countries. |
| While we were puttering around at his office, Jonathan suggested a trip to his classroom. He put chalk to slate and wrote this. He assures me that there is significance here. |
| But, I am more curious about this object in his apartment.
On a recent visit to Jonathan’s grandparents, Nana and Papa London, we experienced more than just curiosity about this pillow when they were shown this picture.
Papa London harrumphed, and said “That’s not what it should say!!”

Papa London’s suggested rewording >>>>>>>
We suspect the reference is much more specific than the original. But both have a compelling presence in everyone’s life.
