Yesterday afternoon I received an invite for Indian food from new friend David Drake. That evening I went off with David, Enid, Chris, and Amy to Germantown to dine at Haley’s Indian-American Restaurant Deli. Others had the foresight to bring bottles of beer, so I drank too. More than my fair share I am sure. We had Samosas and Onion Pakoras for appetizers, then a large range of main dishes accompanied by various breads. Everything tasted great with none of the toned down seasonings I have come to expect where the American palate meets non-American cuisines. I particularly liked the Dal Tadka and Navrattan Korma.
Karen was away so she missed out on this adventure. But, another day dawned, so off to Germantown we went this evening for the Thursday buffet. A much narrower range of food of course, nevertheless completely satisfying.
On the way out the door after our dinner, I asked about cooking dals and I received a mini-lecture cum recipe and a small bag of split peas to try out for myself. What a treat.
At other times of the day Haley’s serves traditional American breakfast and sub foods. Thus, the “American” and “deli” parts of the name. We haven’t tried these out.
