1/17/2021 – Sunday – Noah and Kiara visit.

Sunday NYTimes

Short walk for me; longer walk for Karen. Hips and knees bothering me.

Noah and girlfriend Kiara Guyton came by. Mostly chat about their upcoming semester at Penn. Then brief Zoom with Leiden division before they left. We stayed on for a while. Spoke at some length about the white supremacist fascist insurgence here.

Karen attended some sort of book publishing webinar. I went shopping for a few things for dinner soup.

Made spicy sausage with asparagus confit to go with the butternut squash soup.![](photos/4e1b3854b3daeb5eaf8b0f1af961fa86.jpeg)Dave and Hazel came for dinner at 5pm. Butternut squash soup with confit. Garlic bread. Dave brought homemade butter pecan ice cream.

More George Gently!

1/6/2021 – Wednesday – visit with Andrea and insurrection in the capitol

Visit with Andrea, Noah & Nyla

Drove to Sagaponack in the Hamptons on the south fork of the eastern tip of Long Island. 4 hour drive (199 miles). Andrea bought a house here at a bargain price earlier in the year.  Arrived for lunch, chats with Andrea, Noah and Nyla, tour of the house and a visit to the beach. Continue reading

12/31/2020 – Thursday – News Year’s Eve

Went shopping early. Ended up with a surprising amount of food. Breakfast.

Mailed 16 Still Stepping books including one to Torrey in Australia.

Andrea says Noah and Nyla enjoyed yesterday’s chat. Spent most of day working on blog posts for 2003-4. Spoke with David Ackerman.

Tennis lesson at 4pm. Very strenuous drills serve and volley. Total Tennis continues to be overrun with city folk.

Karen somewhat depressed. More George Gently on TV.

12/30/2020 – Wednesday – Noah and Nyla visit

Usual walk loop in the morning.Noah and Nyla came by around 3pm. We sat out back with the heater for an hour. Louie the dog also came. Chased tennis ball endlessly. We had a very good chat about school, studies, and politics. Karen had to shut me up several times. Noah showed real animation. Nyla always does. It was a buoyant visit.

Sent photos of earlier Christmas tree to Leiden division.

4/20/2019 – HAL BoT meeting, drive to Philadelphia, Noah dances….

Saturday

Cold continues to hang in there. Breakfast at Bob’s.

Just a quorum at 8. Waiting to get started at 10:15 am.

Board of Trustees meeting upstairs in the Senior Ctr.  Introduced and got approval for new Fundraising Committee. Emily gave her illustrated annual report. As always very good. Positive numbers and results galore. The slide that listed all of the organizations with whom the library collaborated during the year is especially startling.

Left to go to Philadelphia at 12:30pm. Caught up with Nyla and Andrea outside the church where the Iron Gate Theater is located around 4pm. Aliyah, daughter of ???, who is attending Howard U. was also there. Talked, gabbed, Nyla did homework. Noah showed up for a few minutes.

Then, less Noah we had dinner at Baby Blues BBQ. Food not very good.

Over the top salsa dance program. Lots of lights, sound, action…. audience screaming… quite a surprising new activity for Noah. Show began at ~8:30 ended at ~10:30pm.

We stayed at Hilton at Penns Landing. Had drinks and a snack at bar. Noisy ac system in room.

Saturday – 1/7/2017

Left for NYC at 7:40am. Breakfast at West Taghkanic Diner. Was snowing heavily by the time we got to Mt. Vernon on way to Queens Museum. Somehow we had not checked the forecast. Turned around. We’ll skip Noah’s basketball game. Back in Hudson just after noon.

Spent most of afternoon working on lightbox plugins for new DOG site.

Took walk up Warren in what seemed to be really cold temperatures though it was only 22 degrees. Went to art opening at 510 Warren. George Spencer.

Drink at Spotty Dog in honor of Pauline Decarmo’s 51st birthday.

Ended evening watching the pilot for TV series 30 Rock.

Saturday – 12/24/2016

Rain in the morning. Packed up more DOG pictures. Drove to UPS Store. Closed. Trip to Lowes for temporary night light. Looked for pocket knife to replace the one lost in Washington at the AfroAm Museum last week. Unsuccessful. Just one set of fancy Buck knives svailable.

Princeton Arch Press with Karen. Found lots of good books Xmas gifts. Took nap listening to Open Source on Beethoven.

Wrapped books.

Off to the Spotty Dog for more presents. Including $70 on witty socks. Karen days we managed to spend $500 in total this year.

Wrote note to Noah about my gift book, The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism by Edward Baptist.

Dinner at Vico. Served by Lizbeth. Service a bit slow. Place was very busy. Special Italian 7 fish dinner $75. We ate a la carte.

Thursday – 11/10/2016

Went to library. Started working on letter to Noah about his college essay. Picked up Will in the World, the Shakespeare biography. Continued to stew about the election. Maybe it is time to write an angry old white guy piece.

UTM meeting with Ole and Seth for two hours plus in the afternoon.

Karen and I attended  CGCC students on the Gotsch Papers presentation at the library. Very poor presentation skills. Might be interesting work about social mobility. Data focused on Irish immigrants in mid-19th century Hudson.
