A Trip to the City – adventures in art and excess

Off to the Whitney leaving Dave and Enid munching

Off to the Whitney leaving Dave and Enid munching

Last Wednesday we went off to NYC for a day of museums and food with Dave Drake and Enid Advocate. Arriving in the City at late lunch time, we just had to have a bite. This landed us at a Dean & Deluca’s deli (Madison and 85th). After the bite Karen and I departed leaving Dave and Enid still munching. We went off to the Whitney to see the Lee Friedlander show, “America by Car”. This is the latest demonstration that Friedlander still knows his old trick of shooting from inside his car with a quite unvarying framing approach. Roof pillars and rear view mirrors are in almost every image. When you are confronted with two rooms of pictures, 192 in all,  with two rows running around the walls with almost no spacing between each picture, the effect is not even numbing, just mostly boring. Taste of Hudson – great weather, great crowds, big success

Belo3rd’s Taste of Hudson street extravaganza came and went today. The weather was great from beginning to end; lots of restaurants brought their offerings; and lots of people showed up to munch and graze. Here are a few photos of the event.

American Glory BBQ – revisited – web shenangins??

After my original note on the arrival of American Glory BBQ up the street in the 300 “restaurant” block of Warren St., I was astounded by the stream of comments in response. After the number of comments passed five (it is now 15!!), I became suspicious that some, perhaps most, are being posted by people other than mere patrons of this establishment. This single posting has drawn more comments than any in the three year history of my website (in its earlier six years there was no comment capability on the site). The most recent commenter even comes right out and alleges that some of these comments have appeared verbatim on other websites. I have not investigated this allegation. Nevertheless, I admit to my doubts.

Leaving all of this web daring do aside, the restaurant remains a welcome addition to Hudson. It brings more life to the street. Soon, I will go for a meal. Swoon, next door continues to live up to its status as a legend. I hope that American Glory BBQ will turn out to be a legend too.

American Glory BBQ - Warren St. Hudson NY

American Glory BBQ comes to Hudson

American Glory restaurant Hudson, NY 12534After months of construction, American Glory BBQ, replete with its redundancies in signage, is about to open. Located one door up the street from a proven legendary Hudson restaurant, Swoon, we expect it to open over this Memorial Day weekend. Walked by today and noticed that stools are at the bar and chairs and table at the ready.

Lets hope that American Glory BBQ turns out to be even half as “legendary” as its neighbor. That will be a great addition to the eating and drinking in Hudson.
