3/9/2019 – Albany Institute, cast iron stoves, Albany Symphony

Saturday

Breakfast at Bob’s Diner followed by brief shopping.

Drove to Albany in mid afternoon.

Albany Institute of History and Art.

Heavy Metal: Cast Iron Stoves of the Capital Region

Shape and Shadow: The Sculpture of Larry Kagan

Dinner at The Boil Shack, Wolf Rd. Albany

After a stop at Empite Wines, we stumbled back to a restaraunt we had been to with Dave Drake and Liz ?? several years ago. Good spot with very varied clientele.

Albany Symphony

After snafu finding parking lot we settled into the Palace Theatre for this concert. Hindemith’s Mathis der Maler and Ravel’s Bolero were the two pieces best known to us. Also a contemporary concerto for percussion and orchestra and a piece by Morton Gould. Hall was more than 2/3 full. Sound good. By chance sat next to a young boy (~14) who is a horn player. Told me about James Somerville playing at Tanglewood this summer.

Back home by 10:30. Daylight Savings ends.  Spring ahead tonight.
