1/8/2021 – Friday – domestic matters, work, tennis

Shopping early. Cold 19 degrees

Went to Walmart. Lots of soups and coffee. Walmart still a disappointing place to shop. Ever more shelves of “Great Value” store brand products. Lots of things missing from selection.

Picked up more propane.

Talked with David Ackerman. He has painful eye problems. Sounds depressed. Mentioned selling business in passing. Will follow up on this.

Finished the pandemic food project on the website. Sent note to Nan.

Tennis with Ted at Chatham. 1 1/2 hrs. Mostly played games. Need to improve serve and return of serve consistency.

1/6/2021 – Wednesday – visit with Andrea and insurrection in the capitol

Visit with Andrea, Noah & Nyla

Drove to Sagaponack in the Hamptons on the south fork of the eastern tip of Long Island. 4 hour drive (199 miles). Andrea bought a house here at a bargain price earlier in the year.  Arrived for lunch, chats with Andrea, Noah and Nyla, tour of the house and a visit to the beach. Continue reading →

1/2/2021 – Saturday – what do we eat during the pandemic – drinks

Nan asked what we have been eating during the pandemic. This provoked the expenditure of lots of time and energy to create an answer. Food During The Pandemic  (opens new window)

Some thought that it might dry enough for some tennis. Temp reached 44. But nets have disappeared probably until end March.

Went to Fairview Wine. Bought exactly the Bordeaux’s that Ted and Anne served a few weeks back.

Need to do a lot of cleaning on the markorton.com site.

Ted and Anne came for drinks. They were happy with the heater even though temperature outdoors was 35 degrees. Anne talked about her childhood and her father. Not so happy to be sure.

Food during the Pandemic

Nan asked the other day what kinds of dinners we have been preparing. Here are some examples.

The pandemic isolation has brought Karen and me to focus more attention on our cooking. Karen in particular has taken up much more of the work. She actually follows recipes, plans, buys, and schedules things to cook and eat. We have continued to cook for leftovers. Almost nothing better than a night when we graze in the refrigerator for dinner made up of a potpourri of leftovers. I maintain my “open the refrigerator and make something out of what I find” approach. Continue reading →
