8/22/2013 – Saratoga Springs

Thursday

Went on a jaunt to Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, NY. Stopped in Glenns Falls, NY on the way to visit the Hyde Collection. In Saratoga Springs,  Enjoyed the ambience, watched a couple of races, wagered nothing (couldn’t figure out how it works….trifecta, perfectas, etc???). Also stopped at other spots: Congress Park, Saratoga Springs History Museum, Saratoga Spa State Park, and other.

410 Franklin St.

032503_3JPG

Jim and Judy, our backyard Franklin St. neighbors are convinced that Spring is here. So am I, after my first outside run along the river since late October.

032503_1

Reconstruction has actually begun on this vest-pocket park on Franklin St. The original concrete monstrosity was built in the 60’s during the same architectural phase that brought us the King and Tobin elementary schools in the “brutalist” style most famously seen in Boston City Hall and the nearby state mental health building.

Year In Pictures – February 2003

Saturday February 8, 2003

Back on SATURDAY 02/28/03 I started the YIP Project.

a

Snow on spiral stairs. Forecast 4-6 inches. More than 12 arrived. But, very fluffy.

This began as a picture-centric project with just captions below. As explained elsewhere, I have been plagued by a bad memory of my day-to-day life. So my first swing was to keep a digital camera with me and take pictures every day. Here is the first, following a snowy day:

Dark matter and energy make it to NYTimes

h

WMAP project reported in the NYTimes. Front page below the fold. There is dark matter and dark energy. The universe is 13.7 billion years old.

Dark Matter, Dark Energy in the Universe

A relatively cheap little satellite has confirmed astrophysicists theories that most of the universe is filled up with stuff they call “dark matter” and “dark energy”. I have called my brother Ed about this and he assures me that Parker (nephew age nine) will shortly have this all figured out.

Taking advantage of the record snow storm, we stayed home. This lead to a catching up on old New Yorkers. “to Google” has entered the everyday vocabulary. The most amazing thing about Google is how wonderful its search capabilities really are!!

SHOVELING OUT

After Karen and I did our Kinnaird St,. duties we walked over to Richard and Nancy’s house on Harvard Street to shovel their sidewalk. They had taken off for a “school teacher’s holiday” to Florida. When we got there we discovered that their tenant had done an excellent job. So, with an excess of moral energies we found Dorothy and Jim’s car on Pine St. to extricate.

October 1999 – visit with Nancy and Louis Vermond

A Visit from Louis and Nancy Vermond

During October, 1999 Louis and Nancy Vermond paid us a visit from their home base in Toronto. We took one jaunt up the coast of Massachusetts to give Louis, a first time visitor to the New England coast, a taste of the rocky shores.

Along the way we stopped in several towns in Cape Ann. On one spit, we found a boatyard. Here are pictures from there.

PS: Some of you will better recognize Nancy as Nancy Simms from her Cambridge days.
