Sunday

We had a dinner for 14 people. Dave Drake cooked the duck breast and red cabbage. Karen made various dishes as did Mark. Anne Bertrand-Dewsnap made a desert, others brought wines and hors d’oeuvre. Ed, Meredith, Maggie and Parker came up from NJ. Ted and Anne came too. Pauline Decarmo, Susan???? Unfortunately none of Dave’s kids came.

At Letterbox Farm

After breakfast shoveled out to barn. Got car stuck on frozen snow bank. Pretty dumb. Got chicken from Letterbox Farm, then prescriptions. Picked up Karen for trip to Verizonwireless store for biannual upgrade. Process was very slow. Came back to manually install from iTunes backup.

Drove to Berkeley Heights for dinner with Ed et al. Maggie especially.

Ed and Maggie had been in Philadelphia for a court hearing on the restraining order by Ms. Chu. End of that craziness.

Talked Trump. Meredith is possessed by this crap. Had tuna melts for dinner.

Returned home by 9:45pm

Only the peas added some color to the table, though as Ed pointed out they are just like everything save the turkey, very high in sugars/carbohydrates.

Hoboken United Synagogue, Park St.

We are the old farts. Looked around for Goldie, Dave, and so on, They are all long dead, We are the old generation. Very cheery sunny space. Good social vibes, relaxed ambience. Service was over 2 1/2 hrs long. Lots of up and downs. Cast of dozens of relatives and a bunch of rabbis. Carole and Bill Myers, Barry and Honey Barman were all from that side of the affair. Conversation about photography, photobooks, Thanksgiving in Philadelphia with Stephanie’s extended family. John showed up at 11. Chat about Ackerman’s contact with Blake, Stephanie’s son, and farms in the area. He is a charming asshole.

Rest of day largely spent setting up this diary.

Year In Pictures – February 2003

Saturday February 8, 2003

Back on SATURDAY 02/28/03 I started the YIP Project.

a

Snow on spiral stairs. Forecast 4-6 inches. More than 12 arrived. But, very fluffy.

This began as a picture-centric project with just captions below. As explained elsewhere, I have been plagued by a bad memory of my day-to-day life. So my first swing was to keep a digital camera with me and take pictures every day. Here is the first, following a snowy day:

Work is well underway on the Pamela Worden Flash movie project. Miriam Goodman stopped by and proffered some advice on the project. As with every project I do, this one is taking several times longer than anticipated.b

Dark matter and energy make it to NYTimes

h

WMAP project reported in the NYTimes. Front page below the fold. There is dark matter and dark energy. The universe is 13.7 billion years old.

Dark Matter, Dark Energy in the Universe

A relatively cheap little satellite has confirmed astrophysicists theories that most of the universe is filled up with stuff they call “dark matter” and “dark energy”. I have called my brother Ed about this and he assures me that Parker (nephew age nine) will shortly have this all figured out.

MONDAY 02/17/03: THE BLIZZARD OF 2003 – CATCHING UP ON READING

Taking advantage of the record snow storm, we stayed home. This lead to a catching up on old New Yorkers. “to Google” has entered the everyday vocabulary. The most amazing thing about Google is how wonderful its search capabilities really are!!

SHOVELING OUT

After Karen and I did our Kinnaird St,. duties we walked over to Richard and Nancy’s house on Harvard Street to shovel their sidewalk. They had taken off for a “school teacher’s holiday” to Florida. When we got there we discovered that their tenant had done an excellent job. So, with an excess of moral energies we found Dorothy and Jim’s car on Pine St. to extricate.
