Sound of a front-end loader backing up beeping repeatedly at 4am announced snow removal. Didn’t get up until after 8. Heard this poem on radio:

Happy the Man

by  John Dryden (1631-1700)

Happy the man, and happy he alone,
He who can call today his own:
He who, secure within, can say,
Tomorrow do thy worst, for I have lived today.

Happy the man, and happy he alone,

He who can call today his own

He who, secure within, can say,

Tomorrow do thy worst, for I have lived today.

Be fair or foul or rain or shine,
The joys I have possessed, in spite of fate, are mine.
Not heaven itself upon the past has power,
But what has been, has been, and I have had my hour.

Translation from Horace??

Worked on UTM RPM instructions, then more volunteer website for the library. Matt Almeida at 11am.

Walked to library for Program Committee mtg. Good  review of projects.

Stayed art library until almost 4. Then walked to Tom Ferrell’s Auto at Worth Ave. to pick up care after auto inspection.

Went to bank where I ran into the same truck driver with torn rotator cuff  He didn’t remember meeting earlier at Bobs Diner

Karen cooked chicken with beer can in the butt  very good.

Karen’s new iPhone restored successfully this morning. Just need to download all the apps. Farted around most of the day. Time spent somewhat fruitlessly setting up a new iPad that turns out to be just a bit faster than my old one. New one bought as part of promotion at Verizonwireless yesterday.

new iPhone 7 camera at night.

At Letterbox Farm

After breakfast shoveled out to barn. Got car stuck on frozen snow bank. Pretty dumb. Got chicken from Letterbox Farm, then prescriptions. Picked up Karen for trip to Verizonwireless store for biannual upgrade. Process was very slow. Came back to manually install from iTunes backup.

Drove to Berkeley Heights for dinner with Ed et al. Maggie especially.

Ed and Maggie had been in Philadelphia for a court hearing on the restraining order by Ms. Chu. End of that craziness.

Talked Trump. Meredith is possessed by this crap. Had tuna melts for dinner.

Returned home by 9:45pm

Still sleeting in early morning. Sound of snow plows. Lower back very sore.

Cancelled meetings with UTM. Seth told me that David Ackermsn had a kidney donor.  Schedule is unclear. Money has arrived from Melvilles

Karen insisted that I call Dr. Rivard, the surgeon. After fifteen minutes on hold he said the back pain had no connection with surgery. Call GP. Karen brought heating pad and Tylenol. This helped. We’ll wait this out   Continue reading

Slow start. Worked most of day on volunteer site for HAL. Brief walk up to 4th St and back. Bumped into Ruth Tamaroff.

Did shoulder exercises. Took a nap. Went to Verizonwireless store for new iPhones. Will go back another time. Too many people. Stopped at Walmart for frozen dinners. Sleet started at about 5:30 – continued heavily into the night. Cars were covered by 8pm.

Watched more of Homeland 6th season. Incision is still dribbling blood.

Sunday – 1/22/2017

Up early. Oatmeal and NYTimes. Lower back very sore, stiff. Lay in bed on heating pad for an hour. Helped a lot.  Wound from hydrocelectomy continues to get better.

Worked on HAL volunteer website most of the afternoon.

Patriots beat Steelers to go to SuperBowl. Our first football game of the season. French toast for dinner.

Saturday – 1/21/2017 Women’s March in Hudson

Took Karen to train at 7:15am. She is off to join Andrea and Nyla for the arch in NYC. Went to Bob’s Diner for breakfast. Sat next to a guy with a torn rotator cuff eating pancakes one handed. About to be retired truck driver. Talkative, but not insensitive enough not to leave me alone when I returned to my New York Review of Books.

Spent day following post-surgery instructions. Not much discomfort. Incision is quite small. Maybe 2 inches. Scrotum is beginning to turn black and blue as predicted. Otherwise not much discomfort excepting an inexplicable sore lower back:

Spent most of day working on new volunteer management site for HAL.

Karen had a rough online class.  Mismanged time.

Saw this picture of opening of library on Facebook.
