Work Decision

Woke up at 4:30 am. Decided that today was a good day to tell UTM, David and Seth, that my days with them are over at the end of the year. Got to bring this engagement to an end.

When I signed on formally with UTM in March 2014 you were aware of my involvement as a founder with my brother Ed in a start up medical devices company, Prescient Medical Devices, LLC (PrescientMedicalDevices.com). For a number of reasons we had put the development of the company on pause while we addressed some IP issues. This made it possible to make a commitment to UTM for a year which was the time frame we talked about at that time.

PMD is now restarting. My brother is making presentations to investors and we expect that these will be fruitful. This means that I need to position myself to focus most of my energies on PMD by the latest January 2016.

I suggest that we move the project of finding a sales/marketing person on to the front burner. You may have other priorities. Lets talk about how I can be most helpful.

Thanks,

Felt immediate relief from taking this step despite the deceptive statements about PMD. Nothing new is happening as far as I know on that front.

No heat. Waiting on plumber Ihlenburg.

Went to Belvedere Home Healthcare in Albany for UTM meeting. Good meeting gathering requirements. They will conduct a survey of potential users.

Back to Hudson for HAL Exec Comm lunch at Mexican Radio. Followed by mtg with David Murphy, Betsy Miller and T Parsons about upcoming hard hat tours of Armory for high rollers. Then, at 3pm meeting with Ann Rosenthal about her role as Chair of Program Committee. Smart, energetic, engaged…. big plus for library.

While Karen taught her online course I went to Bell’s Pint Nite at The Spotty Dog. After chatting up the regional sales rep for Bells I was given a Bell’s Pint glass. Also had good chat with Sherrie Jo Williams and Pauline DeCarmo and a couple of their friends.IMG_0916

Lunch with Ruth and Paul Richards at Cheescake Factory at Chestnut Hill Mall.

Back to Bill and Nancy’s house in Belmont. Weather forecast is for large snowstorm to move in so we care considering leaving to return to Hudson tonight and not be stuck here until Tuesday morning.

Good talk with them over Iggy’s pizza before game. Game was very exciting with Patriots pulling it out in a very unpredictable ending in the last seconds.

Drove to Hudson that evening. Began to snow seriously in the Berkshires on Mass Pike. Near white out conditions on Taconic at end.

4/5/2014 – launch of DavisOrtonEditions.com

Friday

This online business, now defunct, was set up to sell 8.5 x 11 inch prints from a wide range of photographers at a standard $100 price. Karen corralled over 50 photographers into participating. DavisOrtonEditions.com was set up as the e-commerce platform.

We held a pop-up show to kick it off. Some of the work was matted and framed so that people could see how such a relatively small print size would look hanging on the wall.

Mr. Wonderful Wins a Medal

A week ago I ran in the Hudson Area Library Ghostly Gallop 5K race here in Hudson. First race in six years. My time of 41 minutes was hardly stellar, though my PB of 33 minutes some ten years ago hardly made me a threat even in the Clydesdale division. I am happy to be running again.

But the big news is that I received a medal! I am so excited. I don’t think I have ever gotten a medal for anything before. Not sure exactly why I am so enthralled. Every participant who finished the race, even the crawlers, received a medal. Still, I am excited.

Art Book Fair at MOMA PS 1

Stopped off at the New York Art Book Fair. More overwhelming than last. Don’t these people know that books are so dead. Really last year there were two floors. This year they added on a whole tent in the courtyard. Too many books on politics and art movements that were obscure 40 years ago. Still some good stuff. Karen found a few she felt compelled to buy.

Orton Family Reunion Attends Noah’s Lax Game in Princeton NJ – update with photos

Updated with Photographs 05/25/2011 (thanks to Karen for the photographs)

The Orton siblings gathered in Berkeley Heights NJ for a reunion this weekend. The last time all four were together was in 1997 at Nantasket Beach.

Today’s outing featured a trip to watch Noah Gilstrap play lacrosse in Princeton NJ. Mom and Dad were there also as was sister Nyla.

Torrey Orton fulfilled an objective of the trip with a visit to the hot dog stand. Nostalgia takes strange forms.

Nyla at the 2nd Annual Brewster Girls Lacrosse Jamboree – Brewster, CT

We got up early and drove down to Brewster to watch Nyla play in a lacrosse game. I admit to be somewhat befuddled about the rules. Unlike the boys game which features lots of “checking” of opponents (really whacking, flailing, pummeling, and hacking are better terms), the girls game does not allow this. So, the strategy seems quite different. I will have to find the rules for girls lacrosse and examine them further.

At any rate it was great fun seeing Nyla play, even if I experienced some trepidation that hyper-competitive mother Andrea might rush on the field to lead the charge.051411 Nyla playing lacrosse in Brewster CT
