12/1/2020 – Tuesday – leaks, reference sources

Woke up this morning to this article headline in the Guardian. Torrey reported just last night that there have been no new cases in Victoria for 28 days and no new deaths. He refers to this as a “double donut”.

Saw this photo of a book carousel. Mindful of the dictionary carousels that were on a vertical axis, too. My resource access strategy is on the right.

The leak under the kitchen sink required two trips to Lowes for parts. The discovered that the threads on the drain assembly are stripped. New drain. Might as well buy a whole new drain, dishwasher stem, J trap assembly…..

10/25/2019 – HAL, MHLS Annual Meeting and UTMH in Chicago

Drove with Emily, Kimberly Erwin and Brenda Shufelt to FDR Library for the Mid Hudson Library System annual meeting.

We had a booth in Chicago at the Cardio Metabolic Health Congress.

5/13/2019 – rain, gray, cold, work, nonfiction book group

Monday

Nasty weather continued. Finished reading Susan Orlean’s The Library Book for tonight’s book group meeting. More writing in the essay Tinkering with Capitalism – homeostasis. Physical therapy with Anna Marie Zietsman. Lots of muscle and ligament stretching right hip. Met with Seth around UTMH matters. Received draft of marketing pieces from Pauline Decarmo. Was appalled to discover how bad the writing was. Sent note to Seth with angry comments.

Library nonfiction reading group was small. But discussion of Orlean’s book was buoyant.

4/12/2019 – travel project, work….

Friday

Woke up at 4:30 worrying about prostate cancer threat

Spent lots of time on Feb. 2011 road trip in Projects.

Talked with David Ackerman. He sounds dreadful. Also met with Ole. Discussed good idea to create an automated confurator to connect RPM with EHR systems.

Dinner downstairs. Conversation about Karen’s upcoming speech about her book project.

Debby Mayer posted On Facebook about her local library in San Diego Reminded me that Karen and I had seen the frame of a new central library a couple of years ago Found these photos of the finished library.

3/25/2019 – UTMH, more Projects, NF Fiction Book Group

Monday

Karen left for Cambridge before 7am She stopped at Linda Larson’s aptmnt to install Microsoft Office. She ha Soup Group.

Spent most of the morning working on UTMH matters. Ole at Verdrigris, Sam, Seth. Hoping that Ole will really focus his attention in home healthcare agency associations.

All that’s left at 6th and State St.

Walking back from meeting with Seth at One HUDSON City Centre I decided that I will stop eating anything wrapped in plastic or foil. Got to loose weight.

Also worked on a couple more Project entries. Business Cards (see below) and the library movie.

Nonfiction book club at the library. Much better and longer discussion of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee than I much expected.

Great lamb chops. Karen chided me for not finishing AND sending letter to Walter Stitt so I did that

1/8/2018 – hanging around in Cambridge

Monday

Hung around in Cambridge while Karen did her Soup Group. Went to Central Sq. Library and walked around a bit. Drove back to Hudson.

Tuesday – 1/31/2017

Local Produce

Went to corner store for some cereal for Linda. The prominence of sugar is amazing. Who would have thought of Reese’s Puffs?

Up and out to dentist appointment for root canal. Another $1,000 procedure!

The three of us went to the library. Karen to talk with Brenda Shufelt about the replace Peppler print.

Took Linda to see the library for the first time. Lunch at Cascades. Chatted with Linda about her doings. She is working on a research project at Mass Mental on how mentally ill relate to their clinicians. Structured interviews.

Met with Seth Lachterman in mid afternoon. Prep for tomorrow’s CMH meeting.

Linda and I went on a little ride in the country. Stockport Creek, then along Hudson River to Rte 25 to 9H to Stottville.

Stop at Price Chopper for bread for garlic bread.

Flat Tire

Dave Drake called at 6 to say that he had a flat tire. So we agreed to declare victory and we would get together another time. This left us short spaghetti sauce. Opened freezer, hot sausage into the nuker and 30 minutes later sauce. Karen made garlic bread a la Joy of Cooking. Very good.

E-Books Flatline; Books (Paper) Return Like Zombies

As the Web was becoming ubiquitous in the early haze of the 21st century the wonders of Google search displaced Altavista and other engines in the search wars. Web wags declared that the age of books, actually all paper-based media, to be over. The Web would quickly provide universal access to all of human knowledge on your computer. This even before the iPhone and Android brought the Internet to our hand and thumbs. Amazon and Apple launched their tablet reading devices, Kindle and iPad. Others followed. The numbers are truly amazing. Over 2 billion tablet computers were sold between 2010 and today. The sale of e-books rose enormously.

On the way to the funeral books proved to be the zombies of the paper media world. Newspapers and magazines have continued to decline. Continue reading →
