6/24/2019 – web projects, work, tennnis, book group

Monday

PT with Corey Smith at 7:30am. Asked him about a private consult to set up a home exercise protocol using the mat, rubber bands, and weights I already have.

Spent many hours working on integrating old websites into this one. Adding many new Projects as well as posts. Lots of material to work on. Played tennis with Ted at 1pm. Felt infinitely better than yesterday’s outing. Won a set 6-1. Pretty bouncy all and all.

Non-fiction book group. Just six people. I hadn’t read the book, No Ashes…. Pretty good discussion nevertheless.

6/23/2019 – walk, gallery, tennis, drinks

Sunday

Went for walk up Warren after breakfast. Great weather.

Walked down to train station to see Noah off. Train was l;after than he told us. He was outside the house when we walked back. Brief chat with Noah, John and Stephanie.

Gallery duty.

Played tennis with Ted at 3pm. Felt very sluggish and generally lousy. Drinks with Dave at Swoon.

6/18/2019 – work, tennis

Tuesday

Breakfast with Dave Drake at Bob’s.

UTMH team meeting. Review new website with Tony Kieraldo. Then afternoon meeting with Troy Web to review changes to software. Warren Wexelman participated remotely. Very productive.

Doubles at Total Tennis. Not very good. My new shirt.

8:20 pm. End of tennis

6/14/2019 – DOG, UTMH, RBC, Narcan at HAL, tennis, drinks at Ted and Anne’s house

Friday

Spent most of the day hanging end of newest DOG show. UTMH telecon with Troy Web, Matt Almeida, David Ackerman. Migrated website from diary.markorton.com to markorton.com.

Emily Chameides sent me a text message at 4pm:

Just had to call 911. Found someone passed out in men’s room. Greenport Rescue and HPD responded and they revived him. Glad we caught it in time.

I was in the car going to play tennis. Saw the ambulance already at the library. I responded later. She replied:

Yes. Glad they came quickly and revived him. We have narcan but I called 911 first and they came so quickly. Glad I didn’t need to administer.

I stopped by her house on 5th on my way home from tennis. She was sitting on her stoop. We chatted about the incident for a few moments, the emotional burden of finding unresponsive bodies and then deciding what to do. She and Paul have Narcan training. But she pointed out that this guy was really big and it happens that they get aggressive when revived. But the Greenport Rescue came so quickly that she didn’t need to work that over too much.

Tennis was a first outing after the trip and illness, first time in just a day shy of four weeks. Trouble striking the ball squarely. Volleying OK. Ted was like the Energizer Bunny. I was fairly dead. Only played for an 45 minutes.

Drinks with Ted and Anne. Ted had made a big plate of deviled eggs. Shared notes of our trips. They had taken ten students from Marist to Paris for ten days. As usual the conversation was loud, abrupt, back and forth.

Ended evening with another The Closer

5/18/2019 – HAL BoT meeting, Caroline Wilder, tennis, art exhibit Ghent, dinner

Saturday

Edsel outside of Bob’s Diner

Edsel outside of Bob’s Diner

Breakfast at Bob’s Diner. Karen went off to Center for Photography in Woodstock to do portfolio reviews.

HAL Board of Trustee meeting. Only Gary Sheffer and Steve Dunn were missing. Talked about the upcoming Funders Party, the Gala, Long Range Planning, and Fundraising Committee. Pretty uneventful. 75 minutes.

Gallery sitting at DOG.

Caroline Wilder stopped by. We talked about how she can manage her small business in a manner congenial to her personality and business needs…..She wants to keep her dress business small and personal. Doesn’t need Quickbooks that she isn’t comfortable with anyways. I suggested a simple paper journal for the 200-300 transactions a year. When she pulled out a MacBook Air I remembered that she is a digital native, so extended my suggestion to Google Sheets or Apple Numbers. “Whatever technique is comfortable.” She can get her other financial information from her checking account, credit cards, Venmo and other digital finance tools. She left sayin g that she felt relieved about how to keep track of her finances and her business. I told her she had to come back in  couple of months to show me how she is doing.

Pauline Decarmo came over at 3pm to finish out the gallery duty. I played tennis with Ted from 3:30 to 5pm. Starting to feel as though we are getting back into the swing of outdoor summer tennis.

Dave Drake came by for dinner. He had been back and forth to Chicago during the week unloading Lauren Schaeffer’s shit. We drove out to the Art School of Columbia County in Hollowville section of Ghent. Nick Tipple and Erika Born had work on display.

5/15/2109 – sun, work, tennis

Wednesday

Sun early morning and mostly bright during the day – temperatures in low 60s. Almost spring like.

UTMH – meet with Michael Cole and Melissa Scherrif at Columbia County Mental Health to discuss the app project. Seth too. Then, in the afternoon Seth and I met with SOMML – contract finally signed. Also complained to each other about David’s behavior. Seth as frustrated as me. Talk again with Tony Kiieraldo about tomorrow’s telecon with David about the social media campaign.

Also did more work on the Tinkering with Capitalism essay.

Went over to Susan Rubin’s house at Crosswinds to assemble and put up a spice rack. Easy task. She shoed me around her two-bedroom townhouse. Really very well laid out, comfortable, with an amazing array of closets and fittings. She is very obviously very involved with yarn type projects. One large closet entirely devoted to yarn storage. She sent this picture.

Health

Finally got call back with results from colonoscopy. Everything normal. Turns out cut off age is 75. So another procedure in 2024. Also received call back from Dr. Subudhi about prostate MRI. Something there; need to do biopsy to establish whether it is cancer and what type. Need to research this a bit. Won’t do it until after return from Europe. He is a dreadful communicator.

Tennis

Played doubles at CGCC. Lots of fun. Joe’s grand son Dalton played. Very agile and quick with pretty terrific strokes. Kevin, Joe, Ted, Dalton, Paul, Ray, Tony and me. 4 sets. Played until dark. Down pour as we were leaving.

5/2/2019 – work, HAL, tennis

Thursday

Feeling substantially back to normal.

Energetic UTMH team meeting, minus Seth and Ole, concerning Tony Kieraldo’s social media campaign. Spoke briefly with Emily from HAL.

Tennis lesson. Very demanding. Ended with work on serve. New image of throwing the right shoulder up towards the ball. Ball needs to be thrown very high.

Nets up and ready at Total tennis.
