3/15/2020 – HAL, Coronavirus, drinks, dinner

Sunday

Slow start to the day. Read NYTimes Sunday edition on paper. Cancelled tennis date with Ted because it only got to 42 degrees. Went to Carol Pledger’s house on East Allen for a get together with Emily and Lisa Dolan. Just a check in about library matters. Friday’s announcement of program and event cancellations graduated to a full shut down on Wednesday 3/18 thru the end of the month. Lots of talk about the coronavirus pandemic. The Hudson City School District announced their closing so we followed suit.

225 Warren Bar & Grill

Texted Dave Drake about drinks at Swoon. It closed at 4pm so we met for a drink at 225 at 4:30pm. Only 5 or so people at the bar. We practiced social distancing at the end of the bar.

Came back to 114 for a dinner of bacon and gruyere quiche with spinach and asparagus. Talked about memories of family, cousins,…. he left about 8pm. We listened to music before another chapter of Major Crimes.

7/29/2019 – exercises, puttering, HAL, nonfiction book group

Monday

After breakfast did exercise routine. Puttering. Created some questions for the book group meeting on White Trash. Karen was off in Cambridge at Soup Group. Greeted one of the 50 photographers in the gallery to see her work. Read more of Stalingrad.

Broke up the many computer boxes I had brought down from the 2nd floor of barn. First step in a clean out.

Met with Emily Chameides at the library at 5pm. Talked through lots of issues.

Nonfiction book group at 6 pm. 8 people attended despite promises from four or five more to show up.  Two new people: Anna Maria Assevero and Peter Daley. She has joined the library board. He is a friend of Erika and Nick from another book group. Good discussion.

6/14/2019 – DOG, UTMH, RBC, Narcan at HAL, tennis, drinks at Ted and Anne’s house

Friday

Spent most of the day hanging end of newest DOG show. UTMH telecon with Troy Web, Matt Almeida, David Ackerman. Migrated website from diary.markorton.com to markorton.com.

Emily Chameides sent me a text message at 4pm:

Just had to call 911. Found someone passed out in men’s room. Greenport Rescue and HPD responded and they revived him. Glad we caught it in time.

I was in the car going to play tennis. Saw the ambulance already at the library. I responded later. She replied:

Yes. Glad they came quickly and revived him. We have narcan but I called 911 first and they came so quickly. Glad I didn’t need to administer.

I stopped by her house on 5th on my way home from tennis. She was sitting on her stoop. We chatted about the incident for a few moments, the emotional burden of finding unresponsive bodies and then deciding what to do. She and Paul have Narcan training. But she pointed out that this guy was really big and it happens that they get aggressive when revived. But the Greenport Rescue came so quickly that she didn’t need to work that over too much.

Tennis was a first outing after the trip and illness, first time in just a day shy of four weeks. Trouble striking the ball squarely. Volleying OK. Ted was like the Energizer Bunny. I was fairly dead. Only played for an 45 minutes.

Drinks with Ted and Anne. Ted had made a big plate of deviled eggs. Shared notes of our trips. They had taken ten students from Marist to Paris for ten days. As usual the conversation was loud, abrupt, back and forth.

Ended evening with another The Closer

4/29 – 4/30/2019 – work, book club, MRI, dinner

Monday and Tuesday

Still underpowered from cold. Foggy and low energy.

Met with Tony Kieraldo at Rev about UTMH matters. He told me about his music tour in Europe and Lebanon. We talked through a new social media campaign to develop leads for UTMH. Bright guy. Also met with David and Seth. The, late afternoon  Ole. Missed an appointment at PT with Corey Smith. This has not happened before.

HAL NonFiction Book Club – picked up Erika Born out in Ghent because Nick was busy and couldn’t come. Good discussion of Drawdown edited by Paul Hawken. Emily, Karen,  Lisa Stewart, Erika Born, Nancy Kuster, Michael O’Hara, Ruth Tamaroff, Juan Flores(new) and Bob Braunlich from SunCommon in Rhinebeck. Michael gave a good description of how a carbon tax could be implemented.

Up promptly Tuesday morning. Enema in preparation for the prostate MRI up in Latham at ImageCare. Arrived at 10:30 back in car at 11:40. 30 minutes in the machine. Wait for the results.

Emily called from the library to discuss how to handle requests from Register Star for video from security camera on second floor that may have caught the altercation between Tom DePietro and John Friedman during a Common Council meeting last week. Camera belongs to Galvan but is recorded on our equipment. The police had come by earlier and taken a copy with Galvan’s permission. Emily will refer them to Galvan for permission to release.

Long nap in the afternoon. Dinner at Dave’s in Catskill. Karen made a salad and I made rice pudding.  Lamb, saag paneer, yellow sauce, cheese cake by Hazel.

8 pm looking west.

4/24 – 4/25/2019 – dragging, colonscopy prep

Wednesday – Thursday

Cold finally departing. Wednesday evening spent drinking almost a gallon of some sort of laxative. Spent several hours puttering around between trips to the bathroom.

Picked up UTMH paycheck, went to bank for deposit. Drove by high school. Book Festival is coming.

Received annoying note from Anne Terwilliger at the library requesting a meeting to talk about “problems”. I have to talk with Emily about this.

Karen was away at her Woodstock critique group.

Spoke with Emily Thursday morning at our regular weekly telecon. Agreed that I will reply to Anne with the proviso that Emily would be present at any meetings with staff.

Watched a lot of Youtube videos, tennis, politics, construction…..

4/13/2019 – breakfast, DOG sitting, drinks with Ruth and Michael

Saturday

Breakfast at Bob’s with short visit to ShopRite. CVS to pick up Tadalafil. Only took two 20 mg tablets at $106. See if it works. Gallery sitting rest of day. Karen went to her balance class at the library and then to Ctr for Photography at Woodstock for an opening.

Seen at ShopRite. Not sure why “paws” is better than “feet”?

Spent lots of time on 2011 road trip project here. Also a posting on AD of John Oliver’s pieces on the US justice system John Oliver’s pieces on the US justice system.

Emily and Michael Chameides came by the gallery at the end of the day. Left exactly at 5:30. Good talk with Michael about his supervisor role and other local politics and policies. Very smart guy, Low key, pleasant to boot. Since I speak with Emily regularly we barely spoke. They enjoyed the exhibit, LandEscapes.

Michael O’Hara and Ruth Tamaroff came for drinks at 6:30. Lots of talk about Michael’s two week visit to Rome in January. We are planning a visit in May.  He gave us very detailed descriptions of places he visited with suggestions along the way. I took three pages of notes. Very much fun visit with them. Ruth was a bit tippy on leaving. Michael seems impervious to drink.

4/11/2019 – HAL, tennis, TV

Thursday

Met with Emily Chameides at the library. We’re going to make this a regular deal. Complete review of all the issues. Emily is on top in a firmer way than just a few years ago.

Tried out making a travel book for the 2011 road trip. First on Lightroom. Too much work. Then tried Blurb’s app. Too much work. Told Karen that I wouldn’t be making a book.

Great tennis lesson. Volleying. Slice serve from new stance. Cross court drill. Move towards ball. Don’t wait for the ball.

Watched a few minutes of Russian Doll. Remembered that Harvey and Betsy said it picked up. So watched two episodes. Jury is out. Then something else. Then a couple Veeps.

Black bean gorp. Leftover chicken.

Friday – 3/3/2017

Weighed 230. Noticed my notecard dating back to 2009 showed me at 260. Odd loss of weight. Though, I have noticed that I have been indulging in less face stuffing moments. Maybe peanut butter is the key.

HAL mtg.

Went to library about noon. Mtg w Emily Chameides, Carol Pledger, & Brenda Shufelt about volunteer processes. Stopped on way home to talk with Tessy Keller about her dealing with volunteers. She asked for help with ticketing system.

Drove to Albany for dinner and movie with Anita Harris. Snow squalls along the way. Dinner at Van’s followed by Iranian movie The Salesman. A bit slow, melodramatic but also not aHollywood movie.

Thursday – 2/2/2017

Dr. Rivard. He said everything is healing well. Go back to regular activities. See him in four months.
