Then, off to the Perez Museum of Art to catch the new African American exhibition. Took better pictures Carlos Estevez’ work Permanent Battle….

Up late. Stopped at Burger King for quick breakfast before driving to the Design District to meet up with David Murphy at the Institute of Contemporary Art.
Brief visit there.
Lunch at a place all of us had eaten at before, St. Roch Market. David talked about his new house in Merida Mexico and showed pictures of new pool. Spoke of the separate bedrooms.
Followed with a lengthy visit to de la Cruz Collection next door to the Institute.
David left us and we jumped in the car to go to the Wiener Museum of Decorative Art in Dania Beach about 15 miles north. A palace of kitsch at one level, but sill an interesting visit.

After a quick stop at the hotel for a glass of wine and snacks, we went off up Washington St. to the Wolfsonian Museum. A real find. Karen insists that we have been there before. I have no memory.

Up at 5 am. Drove to Newark for 11am flight to Miami. The usual cattle car experience. 
Very long traversal of the airport in Miami to get to the car rental agency. Arrived at hotel in Miami Beach by 5pm. Checked in to Urbanica Euclid Hotel.
Went to Perez Museum of Art in Miami. Much new on display.
Dinner at Orilla Cafe and Bar in the same building as the hotel.
UTMH team meeting….meet Leon Greene, CEO candidate with David Seth and Cameron. Very broad experience in tech and software, bright, good strategic mind. Need to work out future compensation issues before starting four month intro engagement.
Tennis lesson with Saif. Rapid ground stroke drills, serve, toss ball high, slow down the swing from rear drop position, hit up on ball for depth. Knee pain of last week gone.
Stopped at City Hall Annex in Cambridge to look at Karl Baden’s “Mass Ave, Cambridge exhibit.
The details of this renovated building are nice.
Drive 80 mph most of the way. Stop at Lenox Outlet Mall. Muzak everywhere.
Finished fixing DOG website payment forms.
Breakfast at S & S with the Sunday brunch group.
Someone brought these artifacts from a 2003 show.

After lunch and return to Bill and Nancy’s, work on DOG website payment forms. Then the Super Bowl…….
Breakfast with Linda Larson. She was in very good form. Ending her poetry book series and moving on to a memoir. Also spoke about the Naming Project in which her suggestion of renaming schizophrenia as Altered Perception Syndrome is gaining ground. Helped her out after breakfast with some computer problems.

Off to Salem MA for the Peabody Essex Museum. Main objective was an exhibition of Jacob Lawrence’s American Struggle panels. Not very persuasive.

Dropped off Esther. Went to another movie in Arlington. Just Mercy.

This was a complete surprise. We’d been expecting a progress report from Jane at the end of January. Not her death.
Jonathan wrote this to Torrey:
Dear Torrey,
I just now received the news of Jane’s passing.
I’m overseas, far from others.
And I am thinking of the moments we’ve spent together in different combinations at different times across continents.
These include my first meeting with Jane in Australia…at her office … in 1997 I think … and all the times I’ve spent with her and you, and all of our times together, with Nan and the kids.
Your presence in our lives, together, has brought us warmth, confidence, and feelings of connection. We feel these now.
Nan happened to be wearing the earrings Jane gave her in May when she learned this news, sitting at our dining table in Leiden. The kids were by her side.
Torrey, there’s no way to describe the mix of love and gratitude I am feeling right now toward you both.
Such a beautiful, beautiful soul, Jane …I feel lucky to know her and to feel her as a part of my life.
Nan and I over the years have talked about you two, about how much we appreciate you both…
In other words you are a significant part of our lives and our sense of self and family.
And though at early stages in their lives, Jesse and Anna have experienced your love.
Vivid images of their interactions with you and Jane sprinkled across their past few years come to mind as I write these words…
We all treasure our time together with you both.
These are my initial thoughts.

Drove to Winchester to drop off photo books. Then dropped Karen at her Soup Group meeting at Ellen Feldman’s house. Went to library. Worked on DOG website. Ran into Andrea Geyer. Went back to Esther’s house then off to movie – The Gentlemen. Dinner at Amelia’s.
Tried to get ahold of Torrey. Left message.
Got up at 5:30 am. Worked on updating DOG website for the next season. Then worked more on the timeline here.
Troubled left knee was concerning. But once I got going it proved to be just a little annoyance occasionally. Saif introduced the idea that I should be flicking my wrist during my ground strokes. I seem to have interpreted earlier instructions to indicated keeping the wrist immobile during the stroke. Flicking the wrist involved letting the racquet drop below the ball and the flicking the racquet in an upward direction as the arm carried through the stroke. Will have to work further on this.
Big revelation was the time we took with my serve. He pointed out that I am rushing the whole arm motion from then time I toss the ball in the air. Now that I toss the ball quite far up I can slow down my back swing and the wind up to only accelerate during the last quarter or so of the whole swing path. This worked wonders. I hit one ball after the other over the net most landing in very close to the service line. I also had time during the serve motion to think about where I was hitting the ball.
Held meeting with the mayor to provide him with an overview of library operations, future plans, and budget. He is very young, Emily did her usual good job. Gary Sheffer spoke about the History Room. Theresa Parsons chimed in; Bill Stenehjem was present. Toni Koweek represented the Friends and gave a longer than necessary description of their activities. Very good meeting. He is quite familiar with the library but hopefully this gives him a better view of ours issues and the overall program.
Went to Barnwood. Were horrified at the announcement that there was no fried chicken available. Did eat our dinner. Lots of chatter. Followed up with visit to Dave Drake at Swoon for drinks. Very crowded at the bar. Pauline and I talked about her billing practices.
Spent too much time working with a plugin to add tables of contents to web pages here and on AmericanDelusions. Decided in the end to drop it here because of a conflict with Timeline. Also talked with Karen about my spreadsheet of travel events. She added some I had forgotten back in the early ‘70s.

Met with Erin Marshall and Ryder Cooley at UTMH. Lengthy discussion of document standards and user roles and permissions. Have asked Troy Web for a roles and permissions matrix. They should be able to produce this easily.
Seth and I talked with SOMML. After what seems to be more than a year of preparatory work they have actually started to sign up patients at Albany Med. Also spoke with David about upcoming meeting with CEO candidate Leon Greene next week.
Rare completely clear sky behind the Catskill Mountains on the way to tennis about 5:30pm.
Doubles at Total Tennis. Played quite well excepting serve which featured way too many double faults. Left knee bothered me towards the end of the session.
