After lunch and return to Bill and Nancy’s, work on DOG website payment forms. Then the Super Bowl…….
We had a dinner for 14 people. Dave Drake cooked the duck breast and red cabbage. Karen made various dishes as did Mark. Anne Bertrand-Dewsnap made a desert, others brought wines and hors d’oeuvre. Ed, Meredith, Maggie and Parker came up from NJ. Ted and Anne came too. Pauline Decarmo, Susan???? Unfortunately none of Dave’s kids came.
Oatmeal for breakfast. Sunday NY Times on paper. Ellen Feldman.
Tennis with Ted at 11am. Played quite well. Won set 6-1.
The wrist somewhat less troubled. Got to focus on remedial work to get it back in shape. Watched lots of YouTube videos about wrist pain yesterday. Clearly I am suffering from DeQuervain’s syndrome. Found diagnostic maneuver that demonstrates this. Eichoff’s Test. Lots of approaches to resolving this problem. Cold, massage, stretching, strengthening….
Drove out to Claverack to Anna (Rachminov) and Allan Chapin’s estate for a Bastille Day Pig Roast. Multiple barns, huge house. Two pigs roasted. Lots of people we didn’t know. Karen spent a lot of time talking with a new person Catherine Dodge Smith. She has a complicated history as an actress then photographer, journalist, activist. I caught up with Carol Rusoff and her 12 yr old grand daughter.
Got back to gallery by 4pm. Guy came in gallery looked around and then came back just before closing to buy a piece of fabric art.

Had a leisurely morning with coffee and breakfast on the porch at Bantam. Harvey stayed in bed. I chatted with Harvey for a while. Spoke of people who visit and yet never talk about anyone but themselves. Arrived back in Hudson after noon. Both colds still cooking. Sent text to Ted announcing no tennis until next Tuesday – time to rest the wrist. Took a nap.
Went to Bard for a dance recital. First piece was written 20 years ago. Didn’t really care for the music and the vocals. No real vocabulary for the dance. Second piece, an original score for Mercy written and performed by Meshell Ndegeocello,was much more interesting musically.
Bob’s for breakfast followed by food shopping. Drop off a big pile of UPS boxes to return last Fall’s book show entries.
Went to library at noon to help with set up for Gala Party. Moved chairs, furniture, cooking equipment, plates etc. Worked with new board member Bill Stenehjem. Nice guy. Went back at 4:30 with 240 lbs of ice. Less than the 400 lbs Betsy Gramkow suggested. But seemed that 1 1/2 lbs per attendee should work. Then worked with Gary Sheffer and Betsy to put furniture out in the rear garden for outdoor cocktails. No sooner everything set up then a big thunderstorm drowned that plan.
Party was fun. Ted and Anne came as our guests. I spent quite a bit of time schmoozing the crowd. Had interesting conversation outside around cigarrette smoking ith Shanekia MacIntosh and Zia Anger, young staff and volunteer for tech programs for kids. When we left at 9:30 or so there were still 40 or more people hanging out including some dancing. Call for the Cause raised $30k in about 15 minutes.
Left for Boston at 7am. Arrived Needham by 9:45. Visited with Paul and Ruth. He looks older, tired. He is recovering from pneumonia. She from diverticulitis surgery. Good visit.
Drove over to Griffin Museum. Pick up a bucket of books to return from last fall’s book show.
Arrived at Chinese restaurant in Brookline early for 1pm gathering to honor Jane Kogan’s 80th birthday. Kind of an odd event. Food not so good. Miriam’s two daughters and families were there. Spoke with Stuart Pitchel. He recalled my consulting at SRP Signs. Sat next to some grumpy cousins from Jane’s family. Left at 2:15 before the speeches in order to get back to Hudson for the 6pm gallery opening event.

Very crowded opening. 7 local artists brought their posses out. Glad when it was over at 8pm.

Rained pretty much all day. Breakfast at Bob’s. Very crowded due to Father’s Day crowds. Shopping at ShopRite. Later went to Natural Foods on Healy Blvd. Mostly a putter day. 6 people in the gallery.

Cold slowly departing. Spent much of the day working on various aspects of updating and integrating materials into this website. Long telecon with Troy Web. Making good progress on many matters. Communication seems much better. Talked with Matt who had not done very much.
Long nap. Made red lentil gorp.
Went to Le Perche to meet Richard and Roberta Cummings for drinks. We had run into them last Saturday at Bob’s. They told us that Friday was a Le [perche night for them. They didn’t show this evening. Chatted with staff. Talked a bit about Karen’s book group discussion the evening before about Michelle Obama’s book. Jonathan called Karen from San Francisco where he had participated in a conference and given a talked he described as most important. Very warm damp weather in the evening.
Setting off by noon for annual Super Bowl followed by trip to Florida for cousins’ dinner at Flo’s pad.
Checked in with UTMers. Packed. Left Hudson by noon. Arrived at Esther’s by 3.
Saw The Favorite at Landmark. Disappointing ending.
Then dinner.
