3/23/2019 – breakfast, farmers market, travel photos, art opening

Saturday

Late breakfast at Bob’s. Whitney and Steve were there. Karen and I talked about a road trip in September. Went to Walmart. Karen arranged for my first shot of the new anti-shingles vaccine.

Worked on the photos from the Sicily trip in 2018. Over 1,400 from this Netherlands-Sicily trip in October. The iPhone time stamps and the camera time stamps are slightly out of synch causing troubles with the sequencing.

Went to art opening in late afternoon at Hudson Opera House. Too many people. Stopped at Red Dot for a drink and appetizers.

On the way home ran into Michael O’Hara outside his house. We stood over the construction site next door.Just as I noticed that the first floor joists are attached to a ledger board instead of sitting on top of the foundation Michael said that the contractor had poured the wall 18” too high. What a mess. Then Michael told the story of how the original building had collapsed because they had dug down 2 feet below the bottom of the original stone foundation. The clay subsoil gave way causing first a side wall then the front wall to slip in under the building. Big SNAFU. So far this is not an advertisement for competence on the part of the architect owners nor the contractors.

Watched the fourth in the Kavanaugh Q.C. British TV series from the mid ‘90s. Followed by another VEEP.

Monday – 1/30/2017

Walked up to hospital for blood tests.

Stopped at Cascades for peanut butter on whole wheat bagel.

Then, a brief stop in Hudson Opera House to look at the Alleys of Hudson photo display. Peter Spears, photography.

HOH lobby. Construction is closing in on final work.l

Cleaned up downstairs.

Then, did more revisions to UTM piece. Done now. Talked with Ole Breuning about Northern Dutchess Hospital.

Linda Larson arrived with Karen at 7pm when she returned from her Soup Group meeting in Cambridge. Linda’s annual visit.

Leftover tuna casserole for dinner.

Tuesday – 12/1/2105

UTM work in office. Finished molding in office. Partially painted desktop. Cleaned garage so that we can park car. Went to CMH to get script for physical therapy.Helped Seth and Ole with recording iPhone on Mac.

5:15 pm another tour of the Armory. Children’s Foundation and Rheinstrom. Bookcases are being installed. Noticed garish lighting from third floor of tower in Perfect Ten space. David Murphy, Betsy Miller, Emily Chameides.

Perfect Ten at HOH

6:15 pm stopped at Hudson Opera House to see display of Perfect Ten portraits and poems. Very well thought out project. Images by photographer Valerie Shaff are very good.

Broadband Meeting at County

Presentation of consultants’ work on broadband strategy for county. Karen went too. Good discussion. Lasted until 8:30pm.

Saturday – 2/21/2015

2:30 am

7 amBreakfast at Tanzy’s. By mistake of wandering attention ended up shopping at Walmart. Bought two new pillows on top of groceries. Will see if they are thin and soft enough.

Meeting of HAL Campaign Committee at house. As usual good vibes. Eileen Halloran, Theresa Parson, Betsy Miller, Betsy Hamilton, Doug Wingo, Marie Rasner. 10:30 – 12:15.

Snow started right on forecast’s schedule, 2:30 pm. Went for a walk up the street. Stopped for hot drinks at Mojo, the new location of Swallow.

Sunday – 2/15/15

Up early. Shovel sidewalk, again. Coffee, then went to gym. Adding mobility exercises mimicking lateral tennis steps. 25 min on bicycle L8.

Went to Opera House for CSA farm gathering signed up for Letterbox Farm. This is Faith Gilbert’s operation Met woman from herb farm who I worked with a bit last year. Talked about building business plan from the financial model out.

Had a haircut later. Very cold and windy. Snow blowing back ov er roads.

Spent time on blog entry in currentmatters about internet access in Hudson. Also spent time consolidating entries into the diary.markorton.com site.

Saturday – 1/17/15 – more jet lag, art show at HOH

Still jet lag.

Took a walk up Warren.

Stopped at HOH to look at Columbia Council on the Arts annual member show.

Truck Pizza Delivers at Basilica – mystery melts away

Almost immediately after my previous posting, “Mystery Pizza Truck – still somewhat of a mystery“, my Facebook page lit up with comments from Gary Shiro at Hudson Opera House and Peter Pehrson at Acres Food Coop about the future whereabouts of my mystery. Gary informed that Truck Pizza will be at 347 Warren St during Winter Walk on December 3rd. Peter delivered the news that Truck Pizza would be operating that very evening at the Basilica.

So, off I went last night, arriving fashionably late at 8PM for a party that began at 5:30.

Sam Starr and crew were right there inside the truck in front of the roaring oven. Being late I didn’t get a chance to taste the featured pizzas, but Sam whipped up a couple. I took them home. Karen and I gobbled them up. We give them a big thumbs up. Karen particularly liked the slightly burned edges. The crust was very thin and crisp. Total cooking time about a minute. Just as Sam had told me early in the summer when we first talked about this venture.
