Monday – 3/9/15

Spent most of day on UTM. Met with Jan at Columbia Memorial Hospital for talk with Katie Cullen, head hospitalist. She is enthusiastic about the app. Wants to bring more of her people into using it. Ran over to Fish & Game Rd. office of Chris Gorczinski. He had his admin, Kacey Quirk, with him. Similar discussion.

IMG_9383Went to Albany to meet up with Karen and David Drake for a movie, Leviathan, and later dinner with Dave’s new girlfriend Liz. Need to find her last name. Continue reading

Hoboken United Synagogue, Park St.

We are the old farts. Looked around for Goldie, Dave, and so on, They are all long dead, We are the old generation. Very cheery sunny space. Good social vibes, relaxed ambience. Service was over 2 1/2 hrs long. Lots of up and downs. Cast of dozens of relatives and a bunch of rabbis. Carole and Bill Myers, Barry and Honey Barman were all from that side of the affair. Worked on UTM. Spent time on phone with Tim Varney at Troy Web on new iTunes Connect provisioning system. Still very unclear how this works. Also cleaned up more of the investor presentation. Drove to UAlbany. Jan is sick so he attended most of the meeting by telecon.

Talked with Anita Harris for first time since late November. Karen had a photographer in for a portfolio review so I met Chad Weckler at Verdigris to talk about the makerspace project. Next steps, check in that we are on the same page philosophically.

Single file on all but major street sidwalks

Drove to Cambridge and Somerville. Karen for her Soup Group meeting and me to meet Mike Beach at Artisan’s Asylum, the makerspace.

The piles of snow are impressive. Drove down Kinnaird St. to see what the old haunts looked like.

Went for lunch with Esther Hanig at the Druid in Inman Sq. She has a new job as the Director of the Union Sq. Main Streets project. Then I drove Karen to Ellen Feldman’s house. I went on to Artisan’s Asylum in Somerville to meet with Michael Beach. Aside: Michael told me that Peter Flowers is in hospital with pneumonia and stroke. Currently intubated and being treated for pneumonia primarily.

Artisan’s Asylum – Somerville, MA

Learned the importance of social factors. Involvement and presence of renters drives much of the activity. Many of the courses are taught by renters. Lots of interaction and mentoring by renters. Saw this in action with Michael and his projects.  Met Derek Bradbury, President.

There is a corporate makerspace in the next building, Greentown Labs

Picked up Karen at Moira Barrett’s house in Cambridge. Drove home. Arrived 11:30pm.

Sunday – 2/22/2015

imageSnowed a couple of inches over night. Just enough to require shoveling the sidewalk. Warmer start to the day. But weather forecasts are for return to cold temperatures tomorrow and over the following days into March.

Went to gym, though abbreviated because Karen needed to cook before a gathering at Gwen Gould’s house.

Mavis Staples at Helsinki. Started half an hour late, clearly suffering from a cold, voice not good. Old tunes, still fun.IMG_9119

IMG_90417 amBreakfast at Tanzy’s. By mistake of wandering attention ended up shopping at Walmart. Bought two new pillows on top of groceries. Will see if they are thin and soft enough.

Meeting of HAL Campaign Committee at house. As usual good vibes. Eileen Halloran, Theresa Parson, Betsy Miller, Betsy Hamilton, Doug Wingo, Marie Rasner. 10:30 – 12:15.

Snow started right on forecast’s schedule, 2:30 pm. Went for a walk up the street. Stopped for hot drinks at Mojo, the new location of Swallow.

A reason to go for a walk during a snow or immediately afterward is auditory:
