5/12/2019 – rain, cold, DOG, drinks at Swoon

Sunday

Cold, rainy, rain. Breakfast at Rivertown Lodge with Dave and Daniel Drake. Food so-so. Conversation buoyant.  

DOG had some visitors despite weather.

Worked on new keynote capitalism essay. Biggest new claim concerns the ubiquity of regulators in every system except the economy.

Then a bunch written on the What Matters essay. 

Drinks at Swoon with Dave. Talked about Karen’s book project. Maybe pre-sell 500 copies.

Watched more Unforgotten and The Closer.

Wednesday – 2/22/2017

Up early to get to Fish and Game Rd CMH Physical Therapy by 7:39am. Hour long session with Susan Sheldon to treat my vertigo. Charming, thorough, and very practiced. She does 8-10 Epley Maneuvers a week. An hour later I was well on my way to bring cured. 

Felt kind of buzzed for the rest of the day. 

Worked on Fundamentals of Capitalism essay for Jonathan. Also more work on UTM marketing strategy. 

Brief walk up the street.

Wide pine boards being as;caged from Savoia bldg.

Ellen Feldman came to work with Karen. Cooked chicken for dinner. 

Went to bed early. Very tired. 

Monday – 1/16/2017

MLK Holiday celebrated. Woke up late. Breakfast at 9am.

Read more of The Common Cause. Very fine grained history. Almost 20% of the typical page is taken up with footnotes and annotations. Will skim more of this. Most interesting is not the somewhat unsurprising racism of the leaders of the revolution. Rather it is the intensiveness with which they managed the communications with the public, chiefly through the press.

Also puttered around with pictures. Downloading, labelling, etc.

Walked to HAL for the movie The 13th organized by SBKeith Social Justice. Another interesting crowd. Compelling movie about incarceration.

Friday – 12/30/2016

Late start. Bad night’s sleep. Ate last of overly spicey leftover frittata. Worked on CurrentMatters, New banner for site; reorganized Our Situation materials. Nap.  Haircut and visit to Walmart. Talked with Brigid Dorsey at 5pm. The Bartlett House people have expressed interest in investing in her business, potential breakthrough.

Thursday – 12/29/2016

Utility trucks anticipating snow storm at Bob’s.

Breakfast at Bob’s Diner followed by shopping at Price Chopper. Started snowing before we headed home.

9am snow begins.

Back home in time for telecon with Nicole Marsalis about her resume. She is trying reenter the workforce after 12 yr. hiatus. Introduced her to functional resume. 

Walked to library in snow fall, spent rest of morning working on blog post about gig economy in the academy. Talked with library volunteer Ellen Henderson about winter and falling. Library staff give her a ride in bad weather . She is 92 yrs old.

Had soup at Cascades. Home in time to talk with Brigid Dorsey about her pro formas. Then refused and talked again. 

Walked to dinner with Ted Dewsnap and Anne Bertrand at their house on Worth Ave. Dinner is thanks for Karen’s lecture this Fall. Home by 10:15pm

 

Tuesday – 12/27/2016

PT with Corey Smith. Took boxes to UPS. Played with new camera.

Went to library. Published a posting, “A Note on Jobs & Unemployment” (http://currentmatters.markorton.com/2016/12/a-note-on-jobs-unemployment/). At Karen’s suggestion left out paragraph about adjunct professors in the universities.. Might expand that into seperate posting.

Karen decorated some stuffed animals.

Friday- 12/9/2016

    Set up of shoulder scrunch w back against wall.

 

 

PT w Anna Marie Zietsman.

New reading and a DVD documentary at library.

Telecon w Matt Almeida. 

Spent most of day in HAL volunteer management software selection process. Arranged demo next week. Finished use case. 

Small amount of time editing Angry (Old) White Guy essay.

Went to movies. Saw Allied. Old fashioned but effective. 

Wednesday – 12/7/2016

75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack.

Up early. Worked on Angry (Old) White Man essay. PT at 9:30.

Dropped package off at UPS.  Building undergoing renovations.  Didn’t know that that end had a curved roof.

HAL mtg about Volunteers at Verdigris at 11. New Board member Carol Pledger. Emily and Brenda too. Very good discussion of volunteer program. 

Returned to work on volunteer management software  

Tennis at night.  Played much better than usual until last 20 minutes.  

 

Tuesday – 12/6/2016

Long breakfast at Bob’s. Review of Karen trip to New Mexico with Dorothy Nelson   Talked further about shutting down the physical gallery. Time to explore online exhibition software. 

Ship going up the Hudson. Saw top of the ship over the Promensde when we came down State St. caught it at foot of Front.

Monday – 12/5/2016

Got to sleep at 2:30am after picking Karen up at Albany airport. Woke up at 7:30. Couldn’t go back to sleep so I got up. 

Spent some time working on H-C. Most of day taken up with Angry (Old) White Guy essay. Listened to more Chomsky, some Stiglitz lectures. 

Took Dima Dimov picture to UPS for shipment to relatives in Canada. 

Lamb chops for dinner w two color chopped cabbage salad. 

Watched two more sessions of Icelandic TV serial Case.
